The Oswego Fire Department Honor Guard was officially formed in 2007 by Kris Kearns and Travis Martinez. Five additional members were soon added. The purpose then was to have a specially trained group of Oswego firefighters that could perform honorary funeral functions for retirees who passed away.
The first event the guard performed was the Department swearing in ceremony in June of 2008.
Today, the honor guard consists of ten active members, whose common goal is to honor the Flag, the Fallen and their families.
The OFPD Honor Guard constantly strives to maintain the highest level of discipline, appearance and training. It is our mission to honor and remember those who have gone before us. Like honor guards in other communities and around the world, our dedication to pay tribute to our fallen brothers and sisters, whatever the capacity is foremost in our minds.
The Honor Guard participates in several types of events. The team performs colors details at civic occasions, such as public parades, sporting events and other special community events as requested. They also perform colors details at many Fire Department events such as dedications, graduations, and awards ceremonies. The Honor Guard plans, organizes, and performs at funeral and memorial services for Department members. The team also assists other agencies with a variety of events.
The Oswego Fire Department Honor Guard is a non-profit organization supported by donations.
We are available, upon request, for funeral details, dedication ceremonies, parades and other special events for which honors and respect is appropriate.
